Tarot Group Process

This workshop presents a unique way of working with the cards in which each participant receives a “group reading.” You’ll learn how to use the process in a party, workshop, retreat, or ongoing group (such as weekly meetings). If the number of people in this workshop is small, we’ll have a group in which everyone participates. If it’s larger, some people will be a demonstration group, and others will be the audience. Here’s how it works: Everyone sits in a circle. Each person chooses several cards face down and sets them out. Then one person turns over their cards and explains what each one is, noting anything unique or unusual about that particular image. Then each other group member has a chance to comment briefly, according to this principle: “If these were my cards, what I’d make of them for myself is. . .” When all who wish have spoken, the querent can share anything he or she wishes about what the cards evoked and what struck home in what others said. When each person’s time is up, the next person becomes querent. If time remains, discussion is invited. It is limited to sharing personal experience and reactions. No philosophizing, no right and wrong. The key element in this is that no one interprets or guesses what the querent’s cards mean to the querent. Instead, as the person tells what the cards mean to them, we eliminate the “I know what’s really going on with you,” and open space for greater disclosure and authenticity. Bring your tarot deck. Size: Maximum 25 participants.
